John P. Holdren

John P. Holdren is the Teresa and John Heinz Research Professor of Environmental Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and Co-Director of the Arctic Initiative in the School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.  From January 2009 until January 2017, he was President Obama’s Science Advisor and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. His responsibilities in those roles included leading the Administration’s efforts in science and technology cooperation with other countries and serving as the founding Chair of the interagency Arctic Executive Steering Committee, tasked with advancing communication and coordination across the 25 Executive Branch departments, agencies, and offices with Arctic roles.  He is a member of the U.S. National Academy Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and American Philosophical Society, as well as a foreign member of the Royal Society of London.
